Remarks
In the spring of 2016, we tried a new tactic for the final project in CBB 752. As opposed to having individual assignments, we decided to have the entire class work collectively on a collaborative programming exercise. The idea was to put together the programming and the documentation for a number of standard workflows, such as processing RNA-seq data in a variety of different languages. We thought this to be a useful resource for education and also to teach people about the differences between different types of programming environments. We were aided in doing this because in 2016 we had a little bit smaller of a class compared to previous years which made the construction of this collaborative environment possible.
For the collaborative assignment, we made all of the code available to a GitHub site and documentation with some background scientific ideas were also available through the site. We picked a number of standard workflows that we thought would be interesting in a prioritized content.
